Where have we all gone.

Any Ae fans left around?

I'm still here, and a little worse for the wear.

So am I. This group is so specialized that it gets kind of quiet between
releases. There just isn't much to discuss at the moment beyond the same
old "I'm new to Autechre, where do I start?" threads.
Incedentally, I still need ALOT of help updating the faq.

| ../ What kind of computers and other gear do Autechre use?

| which they create themselves.

Prove? I believe this is an urban legend (same with RDJ) and just made
up. Creating their own plugins/software doesn't probably mean "has
coded his stuff in c++" but rather "did some msp patches"

Depending on the actual complexity of the algorithms involved, it may
not make much differeces, between implementing a soft synth in C++, a
piece of hardware or a msp patch.

The interview that they did for some magazine that I can't remember the name
of (it wasn't The Wire) carried a list of their gear. Listed among it was a
Nintendo Gameboy. Anyway I remeber them mentioning that they hacked and
modified alot of their synths at a hardware level.

I think that's true. Groups go quiet when there's nothing to talk about;
that's not necessarily a bad thing. When something happens, it'll come back
to life.

Well, for the FAQ:

"Incunabula" title - doesn't actually mean "first", at least not primarily:
the basic meaning is "a cradle". [Books published before 1501 are called
incunabula (plural, singular is "incunabulum") because they were printed in
"the cradle days" of printing.] Here's the list of definitions from
"Elementary Latin Dictionary" by C.T.Short:

"a cradle", "a birthplace"; figuratively "the elements, beginnings". Other
words for cradle in Latin are "cunabula", "cunae"; the word "cunabel"
mentioned in the FAQ isn't listed in the dictionary at all; it might be
someone's typo.

So, very appropriate title, really. Nice work on that FAQ, by the way. This
correction isn't meant as criticism; just trying to help out, Latin being an
interest (see 1st link in sig).

* * *

Here's a question, then: has it ever been confirmed whether Lego Feet is
Autechre? - I read conflicting things about that. The answer by AE here
seems to imply that it *is* them:
http://www.warprecords.com/news/?offset=0&ti_id=376 (see Q65).
A good read, funny in places. It seems to have been sanitised a bit from the
original list of questions and answers, some of the more irritable exchanges
being deleted. :-)

Sorry - make that "books *printed* before 1501", not "published"; as opposed
to hand-written ones. If I'm going to make a correction, I should at least
get it right. :-)
